MyCreation presenteert Gleam van Sebastian Bergne
Het openen van het gesprek over The Future of Lighting Design markeert ook de lancering van de Gleam, de nieuwste collectie van MyCreation, ontworpen door de Britse industriële ontwerper Sebastian Bergne. Bergne kreeg de opdracht om de eenvoud van de klassieke gloeilamp opnieuw te interpreteren en transformeert de gloeiende bolvormige hanglamp in een opvallend zevenzijdig, heptagonaal profiel.

De collectie bestaat uit twee varianten—een iets opgeblazen en de andere iets ingetogen—beide gemaakt van bio-circulaire materialen. Dankzij de flexibiliteit van 3D-printen is de Gleam verkrijgbaar in verschillende maten, elk gekenmerkt door horizontale lijnen die de nerf van de 3D-print volgen, wat een uniek lichteffect en sfeer creëert.

Sebastian Bergne staat bekend om het transformeren van alledaagse objecten door zijn essentiële en mensgerichte benadering van design. The Future of Lighting is here
Signify heeft een belangrijke sprong gemaakt in duurzaamheid en produceert nu 3D-geprinte armaturen met 65% gerecycleerde en bio-circulaire materialen—een stijging ten opzichte van 55%.

In samenwerking met verschillende sectoren haalt het bedrijf ISCC Plus-gecertificeerde bio-circulaire materialen, betreffende afval en residuen van biologische oorsprong uit de landbouw, bosbouw en aanverwante industrieën, zoals tallolie uit de houtverwerkende industrie en gebruikte bakolie. Samen met postindustrieel materiaal zoals polycarbonaatplaten van carports en verlichte reclame, maar ook post-consumer materiaal, zoals gerecycleerde waterkannen in hun Water Blue collectie, speelt een cruciale rol. Door dit afval om te zetten in filament, vermindert Signify drastisch de behoefte aan nieuwe grondstoffen—een essentiële stap voor duurzame verlichting.

Tijdens Dutch Design Week geeft Signify een kijkje in haar werkwijze als koploper in presentaties, live talks en productdemonstraties, die inzicht geven in hoe hun benadering van gerecycleerde materialen het pad van de toekomst van verlichtingsontwerp vormt.

Op de stand nemen verschillende displays de kijker mee in de productieprocessen, met name hoe gerecyclede materialen en de drastische vermindering van het aantal gebruikte componenten in een ontwerp, samen met een draai-en-klik ontwerp, het assemblageproces vereenvoudigen. Minder schroeven, geen lijm—alleen precisie en doelgerichtheid.

Deze doordachte aanpak vereenvoudigt de recyclebaarheid en sluit aan bij Collection & Recycling Operations (CRO) voor het beheer van producten aan het einde van hun levenscyclus. Door afval te verminderen en de recycleerbaarheid te verbeteren, draagt Signify actief bij aan een gesloten kringloopsysteem voor MyCreation-verlichtingsproducten.

De interactieve schermen in de Signify stand tonen ook hoe professionals en consumenten simpelweg hun eigen verlichtingsoplossingen kunnen personaliseren en kiezen. Signify laat hiermee zien dat duurzame innovatie in alledaagse projecten lang niet altijd ingewikkeld hoeft te zijn.

Recente innovaties maken het ook mogelijk voor MyCreation om meerdere functies in één component te integreren, zoals het opnemen van trekontlasting in de behuizing van de armatuur, wat de noodzaak voor extra schroeven of plastic onderdelen elimineert. Deze innovatie resulteert in producten met tot wel 40% minder onderdelen in vergelijking met traditionele productiemethoden.

In tegenstelling tot traditionele spuitgietmethoden die afhankelijk zijn van metalen behuizingen, zijn de 3D-geprinte producten van MyCreation aanzienlijk lichter, wat de transportemissies met maximaal 28% vermindert en de totale productcyclus efficiënter maakt.

Gedurfde voorspellingen voor de toekomst van verlichting
MyCreation zet grote stappen op het gebied van 3D-printen en verlichting. Vooruitkijkend stopt de focus op duurzaamheid van MyCreation niet bij de productiefase. Hoewel recyclingprogramma’s voor hun producten aan het einde van hun levensduur nog niet volledig operationeel zijn, is dit voornamelijk omdat MyCreation-producten deze fase nog niet hebben bereikt. Het bedrijf heeft echter al drie succesvolle testcases afgerond en bereidt de weg voor naar een toekomst waarin elke lamp en armatuur kan worden hergebruikt of gerecycled aan het einde van de levenscyclus.

Het meest interessante aspect van deze overgang is hoe 3D-printen de verlichtingsindustrie vanuit meerdere perspectieven revolutioneert. Voor consumenten biedt het ongekende productvariatie en maatwerk, met opties voor verschillende maten, kleuren en vormen die onbereikbaar zijn via traditionele productiemethoden. Deze flexibiliteit vertaalt zich in meer keuzes voor de eindgebruiker.

Voor ontwerpers biedt 3D-printen verbeterde flexibiliteit in productcreatie, hoewel uitdagingen blijven bestaan met afwerking en bepaalde ontwerprestricties, zoals de moeilijkheid om een perfecte bol te printen. Signify pakt deze beperkingen actief aan door klanten de mogelijkheid te bieden hun verlichtingsontwerpen op maat te maken en snel te leveren. Dit maakt experimenteren met vormen en maten mogelijk, waardoor traditionele beperkingen worden overwonnen en creatieve mogelijkheden worden uitgebreid.

Vanuit een productieperspectief moedigt 3D-printen het nemen van risico's aan met snellere feedbackloops—waardoor producenten efficiënter kunnen printen, testen en itereren. De mogelijkheid om op bestelling te produceren elimineert de noodzaak van voorraden, wat ruimte, geld en energie bespaart, en aansluit bij moderne circulaire bedrijfsmodellen.

MyCreation Presents Gleam by Sebastian Bergne
Opening the conversation on The Future of Lighting Design also marks the launch of the Gleam, MyCreation’s latest collection by acclaimed British industrial designer Sebastian Bergne. Tasked with reinterpreting the simplicity of the classic light bulb, Bergne transforms the glowing pendant globe into a striking seven-sided heptagonal profile.

The collection features two variations—one slightly inflated and the other deflated—both crafted from bio-circular materials. Leveraging the flexibility of 3D printing, Gleam comes in a variety of sizes and textures, each distinguished by horizontal lines that follow the grain of the 3D print, producing a unique lighting effect and atmosphere.

Signify has taken a significant leap in sustainability, now producing 3Dprinted luminaires with 65% recycled and bio-circular materials—up from 55%.

Collaborating with various industries, they source ISCC Plus certified bio-circular materials, plastics from used cooking oil and forestry by-products, along with post-industrial content like polycarbonate sheets from carports and illuminated advertising. Post-consumer content, such as recycled water jugs in their Water Blue collection, also plays a crucial role. By transforming this waste into filament, Signify drastically reduces the need for virgin materials—a vital move for sustainable lighting.

This and other areas where Signify is leading the charge will be explored during Dutch Design Week in presentations, live talks, and product demonstrations, offering insights into how their approach to recycled materials is shaping the future of lighting design.

On the booth, a series of displays will give a peek into the manufacturing processes, specifically how recycled materials, as well as fewer components, and turn-and-click design are simplifying the assembly process and changing the way consumers think about the products around them. Less screws, no glue—just precision and purpose.

This thoughtful approach simplifies recyclability and aligns with Collection & Recycling Operations (CRO) for end-of-life product management. By reducing waste and enhancing recyclability, Signify is actively fostering a closed-loop system for MyCreation lighting products.

An interactive screen will also demonstrate how professionals and consumers can personalize or simply select their own lighting solutions, emphasizing the ease with which sustainable design can be integrated into everyday projects.

Recent advancements allow MyCreation to integrate multiple functions into single components, such as incorporating strain relief into the luminaire housing, which eliminates the need for extra screws or plastic parts. This innovation results in products with up to 40% fewer components compared to traditional manufacturing methods.

Unlike traditional die-casting methods that rely on metal housings, MyCreation’s 3D printed products are significantly lighter, reducing transport emissions by up to 28%, making the overall production cycle more eco-efficient.

Bold Predictions for the Future of Lighting 
MyCreation is making big moves when it comes to shaping the landscape of 3Dprinting and lighting. Looking ahead, MyCreation’s focus on sustainability does not stop at the production phase. While recycling programs for their end-of-life products are not yet fully operational, this is largely because products of MyCreation have not yet reached that stage. However, the company has already completed three successful test cases, laying the groundwork for a future where every lamp and luminaire can be reused or recycled at the end of its life cycle.

The most interesting aspect of this passage is how 3D printing revolutionizes the lighting industry from multiple perspectives. For consumers, it offers unprecedented product variety and customization, with options for different sizes and forms that are unattainable through traditional manufacturing. This flexibility translates into more choices for the end user.

For designers, 3D printing provides enhanced flexibility in product creation, even though challenges remain with finish, and certain design constraints, such as the difficulty of printing a perfect sphere. Signify actively addresses these limitations by offering customers the ability to customize and tailor their lighting designs with rapid delivery. This allows for experimentation with shapes and sizes, effectively overcoming traditional constraints and expanding creative possibilities.

From a manufacturer's perspective, 3D printing encourages risk-taking with faster feedback loops—allowing producers to print, test, and iterate more efficiently. The ability to manufacture to order eliminates stockpiling, saving space, money, and energy, which aligns with modern circular business models.
